The assignment was to create a poster to promote the opera’s that Lyric Opera of Chicago was hosting for 2018 - 2019 Season. The only requirement of this assignment was to only use type to design the poster and the size and the size of the poster to be 20 inches by 30 inches.
Process:
For this project, I started my research on the history of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s as a company and its architecture. I also looked up the stories and the composers' history on the operas that were going in the poster. While doing this research and watching some of the operas, I noticed that there was one that was similar in every opera; they are all graceful.
To express the gracefulness within the poster, I put some of the types on a curve to create the movement. I decided to use salmon pink in to highlight certain parts of the poster since the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s building is known for its salmon pink interior. The operas are grouped together so that the viewers of the poster will have an easy time reading about the operas and also locate what time and day they will be able to see the operas they are interested in.
